What programs does the LEO Center offer?
1. The CASTLE Program This program offers students in grades 6 through 8 homework help and academic enrichment activities. The program takes place Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 PM.
2. High School STARS Program This program offers students in grades 9 through 12 homework help and academic enrichment activities. The program takes place Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. ***Although daily attendance is encouraged, it is not required. CASTLE and HS STARS are not after-school care programs. While at the LEO Center, students must be working on their school work or engaged in the educational activities provided.***
3. Adult Education at the LEO Center Courses in Basic and Advanced English are offered to adults Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to Noon, and from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on selected week days, as well as on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Classes in Basic Computer Skills are offered to adults in the mornings on Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays.
4. CASTLE Summer Enrichment Program A four week program of academic enrichment classes is offered to 30 students entering grades 6 through 8 in Fall. The courses explore interesting areas which might not be covered in a regular school program but which develop basic academic skills. < /p>
5. Lasallian Youth Program Members of the High School STARS may be invited to join Lasallian Youth, a program of development in faith, service, and community. Members represent the LEO Center at local, national, and international gatherings of Lasallian Youth groups.
6. High School Placement Test Prep On Friday afternoons during the Fall Semester, 8th grade students who intend to apply to Catholic or private high schools are assisted in their admission test preparation. 20 students are enrolled. Please call in September to find out if the High School Placement Test Prep will be given in the fall 2009.
7. Volunteer Tutors The LEO staff is assisted by volunteer tutors who help the students in the CASTLE, HS STARS, and adult education programs. Over the course of this school year over 90 volunteer tutors participate in this program of service from St. Mary's College alone and logged over 800 service hours. Through an orientation program and supervised tutoring, volunteer tutors explore their talents in education while serving others. |
